An Early Look at the Next Race Around the World

Nov 28, 2009 Steven Fife

Spoilers abound only one day after the 16th cycle of CBS's The Amazing Race began in Los Angeles. Who's competing? Where are they going? Find out all the details below.

Can’t wait until 2010 to watch The Amazing Race 16? Then you’ve come to the right place! Although the fifteenth edition of the show won’t end until mid-December, the sixteenth edition of the popular CBS reality show began in Los Angeles on the morning of November 28th. From the starting line to the first destination to some of the teams’ identities, the information is starting to leak thanks to the amazing detective work of dedicated fans at Reality Fan Forum and the flood of posts on Twitter by excited witnesses who saw the teams on the first day of filming.

The Starting Line: Downtown Los Angeles

Twitter user ‘AdamKossoff’ indicated that the Amazing Race teams were staying at the same Los Angeles hotel as him. It was determined that this hotel was the Downtown Marriott Hotel, which is located close to the LA Convention Center, the Staples Center, and the Nokia Theatre at LA Live. It is also less than twenty minutes away from LAX.

Although the specific starting point of the race has not been identified yet, it is likely that it was somewhere in downtown Los Angeles, possibly one of the above-mentioned attractions near the Downtown Marriott.

The First Leg: Los Angeles to Chile

Teams made their way from the starting point to LAX, where they boarded a flight to Dallas or Miami, and then flew to their first destination: Santiago, Chile. Once there, they have to travel by bus to Valparaiso and find Wulff Castle, a historic structure in Vina del Mar.

The specific tasks that teams completed are unknown at this time. The pit stop for the first leg of the race is also unknown; however, it will be in Chile.

The Racers of Amazing Race 16

Numerous teams have been spotted in LAX. Among them are Big Brother 11 winner and fan favorite Jordan Lloyd and Jeff Schroeder, who began dating shortly after the show ended. Other teams, spotted by Twitter users ‘shlonky’ and ‘DanielleVarey’, as well as unnamed investigators at Reality Fan Forum, include African-American women, an African-American couple, an Asian-American couple, a lesbian couple, two cowboys, two ‘big’ men, one with a fu man chu, an older couple, a younger couple, a grandmother and granddaughter, and two young men wearing bright yellow and blue. The identities of these racers have not yet been uncovered.

UPDATE (1/2010): The identities of all the racers are expected to be officially unveiled by CBS at the beginning of 2010, but have all been uncovered by Reality Fan Forum. Click here for more on that story.
