Season 7 of the television phenomenon American Idol has offered some truly unique performers. Now that the Top 12 has been decided, it is a small enough pool of possibilities to start guessing who might end up with the Idol crown. Take a look at the remaining boy contestants and their chances.
Age: 22

This one-named wonder is all about the music. He has no other goals in life beyond making music and wanting to “change the industry for the better.” He certainly does not lack ambition, but from what we’ve seen on the show so far, he may not have the chops to finish on top. He just barely squeaked into the top 12 and the judges often have mostly constructive criticism for him after a performance. Don’t expect him to last much longer.
Age: 17
Hometown: Murray, UT
Adorable David Archuleta is one talented kid. At the age of 17, he can out-sing most of the much older contestants. He does have a killer voice, but his best weapon may turn out to be his incredible cuteness and enduring humble attitude. A young man this good could have quite a big head by now, but he continually thanks the judges for their opinions and expounds on how much he’s learning from the competition. He has a good chance to take it all the way.
Age: 25
Hometown: Blue Spring, MO
David Cook is happily riding the rock wave that Chris Daughtry started in Season 5. No, he’s not your typical pop star, but his consistently respectable voice and willingness to take a risk should carry him much further through the competition. His unique rendition of Lionel Richie’s Hello earned him props from the judges and the first stool in the top 12. Look for him to last until the closing stages of the competition.
Age: 24
Hometown: Glendale, AZ
Giving up his apartment and living in his car in Hollywood are just a couple of the sacrifices David Hernandez has made in an attempt to make it big in the music industry. He’s got great vocals, but against competitors who have memorable looks from dreadlocks to tattoos, he ends up fading into the background. There’s nothing really original about him as a performer. In fact, it seems that he tries hard to make himself as palatable to as large a range of people as possible. His homogeny may carry him on a few more weeks, but hopefully the American public will ultimately pick someone a bit more unique.
Age: 20
Hometown: Rockwall, TX
His thick dreadlocks certainly make him instantly recognizable among the group, but his dislike of interviews may dull his shine. He hasn’t been very successful at portraying his personality in his speaking spots and despite a decent voice and good stage presence, his lack of a way with words might be enough to send him packing.
Age: 29
Hometown: Buckhead, GA
Michael Johns simply exudes sex appeal when he sings and his on stage performance is incredibly professional. As the oldest of the group, he could teach the youngins a few things about stage presence. Where Carly’s brogue might backfire with a patriotic American public, Michael’s Aussie accent will work wonders with the largely female American Idol audience. Expect him to be there in the finals.
