Season 7 of the television phenomenon American Idol has offered some truly unique performers. Now that the Top 12 has been decided, it is a small enough pool of possibilities to start guessing who might end up with the Idol crown. Take a look at the remaining girl contestants and their chances.

The rock n’ roll, Harley riding nurse is definitely an original on American Idol. She’s not the classic pop idol, but her gravely blues voice sets her apart from the pack. I doubt she’ll make it to the end, but sometimes being a runner up is even more beneficial to an original artists career than winning (just ask Chris Daughtry). Before she auditioned for the show she was a nurse so she can always go back to that.

Brooke is cute as a button and an all around girl next door type. She has a good voice, but there’s nothing really original about her as a performer. She may have trouble staying relevant as the competition continues. 70s and 80s weeks were good for her since nearly every artist on her list of influences is from an earlier generation. A little Feist and John Mayer on her favourites list won’t necessarily help her be modern enough to impress the judges and America. She may be more comfortable with her other goal in life--being a mom and raising a happy family.

Carly definitely has originality on her side, but the tattoos and Irish accent may work against her with the American public eventually. She thinks the juxtaposition of a girl covered in body art singing Céline Dion songs will make her stand out from the crowd. She may be right, but America might go patriotic instead of giving this Irish lass a shot.

Sure, she’s classically good-looking and her vocals are great, but she just doesn’t seem right for American Idol. It has a lot to do with her underlying country twang. She’s obviously most comfortable in that genre, but if she tries to country up every song she performs, it’ll get old quick. With strong competition from much more original girls, she’s not going to be around much longer. Don’t worry though, she’s thinking about trying out for America’s Top Model next.

It remains to be seen whether Ramiele’s tearful breakdown as her friend Danny Noriega was sent home has made her more likeable to America or just more annoying. She could depend on her pop star looks and generic voice to carry her farther into the competition, but we probably won’t see her in the finals. One can only expect her departure to be a cry-fest to rival the best sad Idol moments.

Syesha Mercado’s infectious smile and bubbly personality gives her instant appeal to audience members. Add to that an absolutely killer voice and she’s got a pretty good chance of continuing on. She’s so darn determined that her answer to “If you don’t make it on American Idol, what will you do?” is “I will make it on American Idol. Thinking positive brings positive outcomes!” The girl will clearly be stopped by nothing.
