New Housewife, Alexis Bellino, joins the Orange County cast for a drama and extravagance versus recession filled season.

The cast of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Orange County is back for a fifth season. The OC Housewives were the first group of Real Housewives, in what would become a reality empire for TV network, Bravo. In an attempt to be as real as ever, Bravo confronts the issues that many of the Housewives are having with their current financial situations. Despite the tough times, luxury still flows throughout the OC and The Real Housewives are of little exception.

New cast Member – Alexis Bellino

The ever evolving OC cast is again adding a new Housewife. This time it is 32 year old stay at home mom and super wife, Alexis Bellino. Alexis is a self professed old fashioned woman who puts her husband and her kids first. Her and her husband, Jim, live in Newport Coast, California with their three kids (a 3 year old and 20 month old twins).

Per Alexis, her current career is her husband and taking care of him and their children. Alexis has been feeling bored and would like to get back into the rat race. She has a degree in Marketing, but her main passion is health and fitness and she would like to pursue a career that focuses on this passion.

The Recession Hits Orange County

Per Bravo, longtime OC Housewife Jeana Keough will be leaving the show. It is not clear if she leaves mid season, or if she sticks it out for the entire season. Jeana’s real estate business has taken a large hit from the downturn in the economy and she feels like it is time to focus on work and family.

Another Housewife, Tamra Barney, is also feeling the pinch of the poor economy. She and her husband, Simon, may be forced to sell their lavish home due to falling house prices. Per Tamra, they have no equity in the house, but the thought of selling it saddens her. Tamra and Simon will suffer further heartache this season as their marriage struggles and talk of divorce looms overhead.

Lynne Curtin, who was first seen mid way through the 4th Season (she joined the cast when Lauri Waring Peterson left to deal with family troubles) is also struggling from apparent financial woes. Lynne and her husband, Frank, were portrayed as laid back southern Cali types, who also happened to be very wealthy. Season 5 will tell whether or not they are able to keep up with the Joneses.

Gretchen is Back

After last season’s heated reunion special, Gretchen Rossi has decided to return to the hit show. On The Season 4 Reunion Special, Tamra accused Gretchen of being “hired” as a caretaker, by her fiancé. Last season, Gretchen was engaged to Jeff, a man 23 years older than her who was also dying of cancer. Jeff passed away shortly after the taping of Season 4 ended. Rumors aside, Gretchen was a supporting and loving companion to Jeff throughout Season 4.

Season 5, Gretchen is back and still coping with the death of her fiancé. Despite her pain, Gretchen has moved on to a new love interest, Slade Smiley. Slade actually appeared on Season 1 of The Real Housewives of Orange County because he was dating a former cast member, Jo de la Rosa. Apparently Orange County is a very small county.

Vicki Works on Her Marriage

Vicki Gunvalson is back for a fifth season of the Real Housewives. Throughout the seasons, viewers have seen Vicki struggle with her marriage to Donn and her workaholism. The insurance company that owns and runs has benefited greatly from all of her hard work. Since the business is booming, Vicki is able to focus more energy on her marriage. This season, viewers will see a different side of the Vicki and Donn relationship, as well as expensive family time.

The Premiere

The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 5, airs on November 5, 2009 on Bravo. Tune in for the drama and requisite backstabbing, but also for the extravagant lifestyles and to see how the lives of these ladies have changed. No matter what the economic circumstances, or which cast members are coming or going, Bravo knows how to get the best drama out of a group of over privileged housewives.
