How to Host an American Idol Party

American Idol is more than a television program. It's a phenomenon that has captivated America, churning out popular singing sensations Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Carrie Underwood and Daughtry to name a few. And fans are more than just television viewers. They're involved participants in cheering on and choosing America's newest musical artists.
So instead of just watching American Idol Tuesdays and Wednesdays on TV this season, make an event out of it by inviting over family members and friends for an interactive party, complete with American Idol themed activities and snacks.
Set the Mood
To prepare for your American Idol party, set the mood. Decorate with music-themed paper goods and props. Inflatable guitars and microphones, music note confetti and rock 'n roll-themed centerpieces and paper goods can be purchased online at Oriental Trading or at your local party store.
Plan the Menu
Plan a menu of party food fit for a star. Appetizers, rich desserts and cocktails for the 21 and over crowd are sure to please American Idol fans. It's always fun to make some party-themed food items to serve. Dip pretzel rod sticks in dipping chocolate per package directions, and serve as American Idol microphones. Make Rice Krispie treats, cutting them into star shapes with a star-shaped cookie cutter. Serving Rockstar Energy drinks is also a fun touch.
American Idol Party Activities
- Karaoke is a must at any American Idol party. Idol fans will love having their chance to perform as an American Idol. Choose three guests to act as judges Paula, Randy and Simon and critique each singer. Let the "judges" choose a winner and crown your party's American Idol. Award the winner with an American Idol or music-themed prize, such as an American Idol CD.
- Play an American Idol trivia game. Scour the Internet for fun and interesting facts about the show and it's past and present contestants. Make a list of American Idol trivia questions, using the information you collect. Depending on the size of your guest list, divide party-goers into teams or play individually. The host or hostess should ask the questions and award a point to the team with the right answer. You might opt to make more difficult questions worth a higher point value. Again, award a fun prize to the individual or team that wins.
- American Idol contestants are about style and glamor, so it's only fitting that your party guests be too. Give your party guests the star treatment by making them over. Do each other's hair and makeup and try on star-studded accessories like boas, hats and jewelry.
