Lauren Cleri took America by storm when she took to the hot seat on The Moment of Truth. Cleri is one of the elite, a game show contestant who makes it to the cover of tabloids. She also became the source of blogosphere and water cooler conversation.
Cleri, a New Yorker, took to The Moment of Truth geared up to win the grand prize and she did not care who she hurt in an attempt to get it.
Lauren Cleri's List of Untruths Too Long to Write
Cleri admitted, among other things to, stealing from work, being in love with an ex when she married her husband, cheating on her husband and taking off her wedding ring to appear single. The list of horrendous questions is simply too long to list.
Cleri eventually lost all her money when she attempted to cheat the detector by suggesting she believed she was a good person. Her answer was forced and the audience cringed anticipating the red ring of death that indicates a “false” response.
Cleri's appareance on the show turned her world upside down. After the show Cleri spoke with a New York newspaper and suggested that all that was revealed during the show her husband already new about. Bloggers suggested that Cleri wanted to end her marriage while winning some money; a suggestion she vehemently has denied.
Cleri appeared again on The Moment of Truth for a sit down update interview with Mark L. Wahlberg, host of the show. Cleri told Wahlberg that it had been a “whirlwind” since appearing on the show. Cellphones and house phones would not stop ringing and newspapers and magazines all wanted to speak with Cleri and her husband Frank.
Cleri Shocked Herself With Revelations
Cleri admitted that watching the show had been difficult and she was “shocked” and she cried over the show. Cleri also announced that she and her husband are separated and no longer living together. She continued, stating she believes they both need the time to figure out what they want.
Cleri told Wahlberg that she regrets hurting her family, specifically her husband's family who were unaware of the couple's problems. Regarding the question about her ex-boyfriend Cleri justified her answer by suggesting that feelings like that never go away and that everyone has feelings for a past lover on some level.
Lauren Cleri was perhaps The Moment of Truth's biggest disaster, but she may also be the show's claim to fame. Her show literally opened the floodgates and brought in more viewers week after week following her show.
Clips from next season promise Cleri-esque carnage as well, with new contestants answering similar questions in the quest for half a million dollars. The question is will anyone make it and at what cost?
