Project Runway Spin-Off Starts Fashion Model Search

Models of the Runway is holding a modeling competition to select a new model for next season's show. The fashion model search will announce a winner in November.

Models of the Runway is a recently launched show following a group of fashion models as they compete alongside fashion designers on Project Runway, the companion show to Models. With this season's shift from Bravo to Lifetime, Project Runway and the new Models of the Runway series are both getting plenty of attention.

Unlike other modeling competition shows, Models of the Runway is less about models controlling their destinies as the fashion models are each paired with a fashion designer. If a given designer does well, so will the model. When a designer is eliminated on Project Runway, the model is at risk of also going home unless a different designer wishes to use her.

Lifetime seeks to grow the fashion model show by including a fashion model search in which a model hopeful may make the cast. The modeling competition is currently casting.

Models of the Runway Fashion Model Search

Applications are now being accepted for hopeful models who wish to compete on the next Models of the Runway season. Applicants need to submit an application, upload a video, submit several photos, and write an essay. Full information on model casting can be found on MySpace, a Lifetime partner on this project. The modeling competition will announce a winner in November.

“The Project Runway brand continues to seek untapped talent in new and creative ways, and we are thrilled to be going viral with the Models of the Runway Casting Challenge,” said Barbara Schneeweiss, Vice President, TV and Film Production and Development at The Weinstein Company. “It allows us to incorporate the fans directly into the selection process, giving them the opportunity to participate in the show that they love so much.”

Fans Participate in Modeling Competition

The modeling contest will occur over the coming months and will allow fans to vote online. The multiple round fashion model search will reduce the contestant pool by 25% at the end of September, with a second voting round during October. Five finalists will be selected on October 31st from which a winner will ultimately be announced.

Project Runway and Models of the Runway are both broadcast on Lifetime. Aspiring fashion designers leverage the fashion models, all of whom hope to win the top modeling prize. Each week, the designers have the option to change models if they choose. The model paired with the winning fashion designer will win a $25,000 cash prize and fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.

Next season, Lifetime intends to cast a model hopeful on Models of the Runway with help from fans. The fashion model search is currently accepting applications for a multi-round voting elimination to occur over the coming months. The fashion search winner will be announced in November.
