Heidi and the panel turn the competition on its ear once again as the final four designers all get a chance to go to Fashion Week.
What the Elle? I mean, really. This episode's title says it all! Our fantastic four: Uli, Michael, Jeffrey and Laura, met with fashion editor, Nina Garcia, in her office at Elle Magazine. Nina handed them a sheet on which they would put a photograph showing their model and garment in movement and write three words that describe their statement as designers.
Michael had such a hard time with this challenge. Unfortunately, he tried too hard and almost ended up getting Auf'd. He made an evening gown that was more risqué than risky. His model looked like a hooker in a prom dress. It was not what we've come to expect from the fashionable, hip hopster that is Michael Knight. He said his style was "Sexiness", "Sultry" and "Seductive". What's the difference?
Uli was told NOT to do the same type of dress. She actually came through beautifully. I love Uli's design flair. She puts patterns together that no one else would and makes them look good. Uli took Michael's model, Nazri, which might have thrown Michael off. She and Laura also bantered quite a bit this episode. It was nice to see attitude from Uli!
The dress, for its part, was short and fun. It was flirty and sexy. I loved it!
Kudos, Uli. She was the winner of the final challenge and is making it to Bryant Park with no problem.
Laura did another cocktail dress. However, the champagne pink was exquisite on her model, Camilla. Heidi told her she could go to Bryant Park, but she has to promise not to do a collection of the same dress with the same plunging neckline twelve times. The panel is afraid she's a 'one note.' I'm not. I think she can pull it off.
However, Laura will be heavily pregnant with her sixth child by the time her collection has to be turned in. I think she should win if she can deliver the collection before delivering the wee babe!
Jeffrey, for his part, made a grand departure from his usual rock and roll sensibility. He made a romantic dress that I thought was pretty cute. Marilinda certainly rocked it in the rickshaw in Central Park. However, the judges hated it. Maybe they thought it was too young. Nina said that Jeffrey 'confused' her. Maybe, he was missing his family who he talked to on the phone for Father's Day in the middle of the challenge. Maybe, he just wanted to have some fun and show a softer side of himself.
Who knows?
The biggest surprise of the night came from the panel. Instead of Auf'ing one of these designers, they decided to keep all four around. Oh yes! Michael, Uli, Jeffrey and Laura are all going to Fashion Week. This is a Project Runway first. I can't wait to see their collections.
Of course, we all will have to until the finale which airs on October 18 to learn who wins! Why, oh why, does Heidi have to be such a tease?
