Trump’s Newest Batch of Candidates Spotted on New York Streets

After steadily losing popularity every season since its debut in 2004, Mark Burnett’s The Apprentice was revived in 2008 with a celebrity edition. Apprentice alum Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth was among the candidates and created buzz due to her bitter feud with eventual winner Piers Morgan. Last season, the controversy continued thanks to a heated rivalry and personal attacks between Joan and Melissa Rivers and their nemesis, poker player Annie Duke.
This season, a new batch of celebrities will take on Donald Trump and the Boardroom. Despite attempts to keep the show’s cast a secret, the celebrity contestants’ identities were revealed when they were discovered by the NY Post while filming a commercial in New York City’s Meatpacking district.
Here’s a look at who’s competing this season.
- Bill Goldberg, a 42 year-old major pro wrestling star, actor, and former NFL player. He recently appeared on an episode of Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? and won $175,000 for charity.
- Maria Kanellis, a 27 year-old WWE Diva and Playboy cover girl who got her start in wrestling after participating in the 2004 Raw Diva Search.
- Sharon Osbourne, the 57 year-old wife of rock superstar Ozzy Osbourne who is also a music manager and television personality. No stranger to reality TV, she previously starred in her family’s own reality series, and was a judge on the British talent show The X Factor and on America’s Got Talent.
- Rod Blagojevich, the 52 year-old impeached former governor of Illinois. Earlier this year, he made headlines when he was pursued to appear on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, also on NBC. His wife Patti appeared on the show instead.
- Cyndi Lauper, a 56 year-old singer and actress, best known for her hit “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” Lauper has previously appeared as a mentor on both American Idol and Canadian Idol.
- Darryl Strawberry, a 47 year-old former New York Mets and Yankees baseball player who is just as well-known for his controversial behavior as he is for his career. A few years ago, Strawberry battled colon cancer twice, incurred numerous arrests, and had a drug problem. He is now rehabilitated and cancer-free.
- Bret Michaels, the 46 year-old lead singer of Poison, Rock of Love reality star, and judge on Nashville Star.
- Carol Leifer, a 53 year-old comedian and TV writer who wrote for Seinfeld and even inspired the character of “Elaine.”
- Holly Robinson Peete, a 45 year-old actress, singer, and author, best known for her roles on crime series 21 Jump Street and comedy series For Your Love.
- Summer Sanders, a 37 year-old TV Host, actress, and Olympic gold medal winner in swimming.
- Curtis Stone, a 33 year-old celebrity chef, author, and TV personality from Australia.
- Sinbad, a 52 year-old comedian and actor, well-known for a series of roles in family-friendly comedies in the 1990s, including Houseguest, First Kid, and Jingle All The Way.
- Selita Ebanks, a 26 year-old Victoria’s Secret model, best known for her work as a Victoria’s Secret Angel from 2005-2009.
- Michael Johnson, a 42 year-old retired sprinter and, four-time Olympic gold medal winner and eight-time world champion.
First Task: Selling Hamburgers
The first task of the season will involve selling hamburgers for charity at Hamburger Heaven located at 62nd and Lexington in Manhattan. Celebrity participants Sharon Osbourne and Cyndi Lauper both appeared on the Howard Stern show on Monday, October 19, 2009. They claimed that they were there to promote an undisclosed charity and asked for fans to support them by purchasing a special hamburger called the “Tenacious Hamburger” that they would be selling in New York the next day.
Osbourne also indicated that the new season will once again begin with a battle of the sexes, while Lauper is her team’s first Project Manager.
When to Watch
Celebrity Apprentice 3 will premiere in March 2010 on NBC.
