Survivor: Cook Islands, Episode 3De-segregation is the new name of the game!Sep 29, 2006 Deanna Couras Goodson
Well, the tribes are no longer split according to racial lines! There are de-segregated tribes now. So, what else happened? Here's the recap!
We still have 30 days left to go. The new Aitu tribe premieres itself sans Billy. Immediately, Jeff announces that it is time to merge. Already! Yup! The much-hyped social experiment, which had people all over the country talking about Survivor’s return to segregation, is OV-AH! It sure didn’t take them too long, now, did it? I must say that I was a bit disappointed. I expected this ‘experiment’ to last longer. Now, it’s just like every other season of Survivor EXCEPT the Caucasians are in a minority on both tribes for once. The ceremony to pick new tribes was long, involved and very fair. Four team captains – two men and two women - were chosen because they grabbed rocks with X’s on them from a bag. Those four ‘captains’ got to pick members of their own gender for the new teams. However, they could NOT choose people from their own race – oops, I mean former tribe! At the end, the four team captains got eggs with paint in them. When they crushed them, the color of paint – Red and Blue – determined the new tribes. On the new Raro, we have: Parvati, Nate, Brad, J.P., Jenny, Cristina, Stephannie, Rebecca and Adam. The new Aitu is comprised of: Yul, Becky, Sundra, Jonathan, Candice, Jessica (aka Flicka), Cao Boi, Ozzy and Cecilia. The Aitu tribe wasted no time in setting up its own “super-alliance”. Candice and Becky decided to bring Yul and Jonathan in. Jonathan swore he had “Flicka” in his pocket. Flicka, for her part, seemed to gel better with Ozzy, Cecilia, Sundra and Cao Boi. Especially Cao Boi. Yul told his homegirl, Becky, that he found the special immunity idol on Exile Island. He promised he’d do his best to save her if the need ever arose, which, of course, it did later on in the episode. The challenge was an oldie but a goodie – the pack mule race – you know the one in which each tribe member carries a 15 pound pack of something and walks around in water. Whichever team gets tackled first loses. The ladies quickly left the race on Aitu, which really hurt them. So too did Yul’s strategy of facing Raro head-on. Personally, I liked the idea. I just wished it would’ve worked in his favor. The winning team also got to send a member of the losing team to Exile Island. Raro chose Candice for some reason. Not exactly sure why! Back at the Raro camp, Parvati is flirting with just about all the guys. She seems especially keen on Nate. Nate, for his part, is keeping his distance. He caught an octopus for everyone to have for dinner and felt pretty good about it. Meanwhile at Aitu, Jonathan is working Flicka hard. He was relentless in getting her to change her mind about voting off Becky. Personally, if I were Jessica, I would NOT go into an alliance with anyone who nicknamed me Flicka! Jonathan is controlling and manipulative as Jessica and her new BFF, Cao Boi, have figured out! However, both of them voted with the “alliance” and Cecilia (Cece) was sent home. Ozzy was upset. Maybe he can shake things up next week, but I doubt it!
