The American Idol talent show top 24 contestants are picked and Fox T.V.'s American Idol Season 7 has begun. Here is information about the 2008 singers.
America's favorite reality TV singing contest and talent search, American Idol, is up and running. Here are some tidbits on the top 24, one of whom may be America's next pop idol.
Details on the Top 24 American Idol Contestants for Season 7, 2008
Guys:
- David Archuleta, 17, from Utah, is influenced by Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, and Bryan Adams. He's had musical training and writes songs.
- Colton Berry,18, lives in Virginia and says "... everything and everyone has influenced me musically."
- Robbie Carrico, 26, from Florida is influenced by Jonathan Davis and Rob Thomas.
- Jason Castro, 20, from Texas is the guy with the great dreadlocks. He says, "I play drums, guitar and love any artistic stuff..."
- David Cook, 25, from Oklahoma. had red-streaked hair at try-outs. His influences include Our Lady Peace and Big Wreck. He's sung in choirs, but has no formal training.
- Chikezie Eze, 22, lives in California. His influences include Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye. He's had very little vocal training.
- Garrett Haley, 17, from Ohio is influenced by Steve Perry and Backstreet Boys. He has had no musical training and enjoys video games.
- David Hernandez, 24, from Arizona has influences including Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys. He's had voice training and enjoys acting.
- Michael Johns, 29, from Australia, lives in California. Influences include INXS, David Bowie, ACDC. He has no formal training.
- Luke Menard, 29, from Indiana. has musical influences including James Taylor and Maroon 5. He enjoys weightlifting and motorcycles.
- Danny Noriega,18, lives in California. He's influenced by Fantasia. He has sung all his life, wihout formal training.
- Jason Yeager, 28, from Texas is influenced by Journey, Boyz II Men, and Michael Buble. He plays guitar & piano by ear.
Girls:
- Joanne Borgella, 25, lives in New Jersey, is a plus-size model and is influenced musically by Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and Barbra Streisand. She likes jewelry and clothing design.
- Kristy Lee Cook, 24, lives in Oregon. Kristy is a horse trainer. She sang "Amazing Grace" in her audition. She's had vocal training and enjoys swimming and martial arts.
- Amy Davis, 25, lives in Indiana. In Amy's audition, she sang "Blue Bayou." Her main musical influence is Patty Griffin.
- Asia'h Epperson, 19, lives in Missouri. Her influences include Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Christina Aguilera. She has no training. She enjoys dancing, sports, and acting.
- Alexandréa Lushington, 16, lives in Georgia. She brought her 93-year-old great-grandmother to her audition. Muscial influences include The Beatles, John Mayer and Alicia Keys. She's had singing and piano training.
- Kady Malloy, 18, from Texas. is influenced by Freddie Mercury, Elton John, and Billy Joel. She's had voice training and enjoys acting.
- Ramiele Malubay, 20, lives in Florida. Small girl, giant voice. Musical influences include Aretha Franklin and Mariah Carey. She has a vocal coach.
- Syesha Mercado, 21, lives in Florida and sang "Chain of Fools" during Hollywood week. Influences include Whitney Houston and Zap Mama, She acts and dances.
- Amanda Overmyer, 23, lives in Indiana. The judges compared her raspy tones to Janis Joplin. Her influences are CCR, Bob Seger, and Joplin.
- Carly Smithson, 24, from Ireland, lives in California. Influences include Heart, Celine, and U2. She's had no voice training.
- Alaina Whitaker, 16, from Oklahoma has musical influences Martina McBride, Faith Hill, and Celine Dion. Alaina began singing as a girl, but has no formal training.
- Brooke White is 24. She ilives in California and says she is artsy and right-brained. Her influences include James Taylor, Carole King, and Elton John.
