Times are tough. The economy is in the toilet. Unemployment is at an all-time high. But luckily for MTV stars, making an ass of oneself on television is recession-proof.

For more than 10 years, former cast members from The Real World and Road Rules have been competing on The RW/RR Challenge: a semi-annual game show spin-off with gazillions of dollars to win.

Every Challenge has a new cast, a new enviable location, and a new catch. The Ruins — the 19th installment, taking place in picturesque Phuket, Thailand — pits 14 previous Challenge winners (Champions) against the 14 Challenges, none of whom have ever tasted victory.

Before every mission — each of which is worth a whopping $20,000 to be divvied up among the winning team members — both teams nominate three players of each gender to potentially go into The Ruins. In addition to accumulating more money, the winners have the privilege of choosing who, one male and female from each team, dukes it out in the elimination round, most likley something brutally physical in a gladiator-style sandpit if past Challenge seasons are any indication. Winning The Ruins, you stay on the show and your individual bank account is safe, and you're also entitled to all the money won by the player you just beat. After nine challenges and 18 people leaving Thailand, the tenth challenge is a final showdown worth an additional $120,000.

Who's Who On The Ruins

On the Champions side, we’ve got Queen Bee Veronica and lovable spitfire Katie who once had to be physically restrained from beating her senseless; the meathead trio of Evan, Kenny and Johnny Bananas; former fiancées Wes and Johanna; powerhouses Darrell, Derrick and Evelyn; scheming Susie; jarringly normal Ibis; Syrus, who is probably 40 years old at this point; and Tonya, the hottest mess on MTV.

Representing the Challengers are Diem the cancer survivor, Chet the Mormon hipster, Brianna the tough singer; Sarah the tattooed nice girl who will probably be eaten alive by all the crazy people; former couple KellyAnne and Cohutta; Danny, who’s gotten married since we last saw him; Shauvon, who still looks like a porn star; Casey, who is all about the free trip and couldn’t care less about competing; Dunbar and Kim, who hooked up the last time they appeared on one of these shows; Adam, who got beat up the last time he appeared on one of these shows; and Brad, who seems to come in second every time he appears on one of these shows. Oh, and Nick, who is… also there. Seriously, who is Nick?

Now that we’ve got the premise and participants out of the way, on to the premiere.

I think that Kenny, Evan, and Johnny play the game cowardly they con all of the players to gang up on the weak player ,people that have achance to beat just to proceed further in the game. The best solution in all of the challenges is to pick a name out of a hat that way everyone has to prove themselves in the challenges. those guys are afraid #1 because in the beginning they don't know what kind of duels there going to be so in the beginning sacrifice to eliminate and use everyone as a pond.

I feel that Evan, Johnny and Kenny need to be held responsible for their actions as well. Throwing powder into someones eyes could cause some damage. It's sort of a gang fight with these 3 lil B's causing trouble like big school bullies....they are disgusting! Then when Wes calls them on it he gets called Dr. Phil. They need to go down...put Brad, Wes and Derek up against the three stooges and see what happens. Come on MTV for all of us....make it a fair competition!
