This week's Project Runway featured the 12 fashion designers in a challenge judged by Eva Longoria and Tommy Hilfiger. Who was kicked off? Who was eliminated?

Having survived the model challenge last week, the remaining twelve Project Runway designers returned this week without Qristyl. The female designers commented on how much quieter the apartment seemed without Qristyl.

With an equal number of men and women this week, Althea won last week and had immunity enter this week's challenge. Heidi met the designers on the runway and informed them that this challenge would be tough, but that the answers would all be in, "black and white." The designers hoped for old Hollywood glam and headed off to meet up with Tim.

Project Runway Top 12 Episode 5 Recap: The Challenge

The designers walked with Tim to the Los Angeles Times building where newspaper are produced. Booth Moore, Fashion Editor at the LA Times, explained that the designers would be using newspapers to create a runway look. The designers had 3 minutes to grab as many newspaper as they could and were later provided with markers and dyes to color their paper.

The challenge worried many of the designers who feared working with the fragile paper. Shirin seemed to irritate the other designers since she was talkative throughout the project. Origami paper folding factored into the designs of Shirin, Johnny, and Ra'mon.

Tim stopped by to check on the designers and provide some tough love. Tim found Gordana's dress amazing while he found Johnny's dress woeful. Tim thought it looked like a bunch of children made it. Tim continued by encouraging Nicolas and Christopher who had ambitious designs.

Later, Shirin and Nicolas overheard Johnny telling his model that his first dress was ruined by a steamer when in reality he scrapped it after Tim's feedback. To relax, Johnny spent his time doing crossword puzzles while the other designers worked.

Project Runway Top 12 Episode 5 Recap: Runway Reaction

American designer Tommy Hilfiger and actress Eva Longoria Parker filled in for Nina Garcia and Michael Kors this week. Zoe Glassner, Senior Editor at Marie Claire, rounded out the judging panel.

The runway show provided creative designs and a few horrific ones as well. While some designers dyed the paper and used color, several designers opted to use the paper in its plain form.

Heidi called forward Johnny, Nicolas, Christopher, Althea, Gordana, Irina and let everyone else go. The designers leaving the stage were safe and the ones called forward having had the highest and lowest scores.

Althea explained her layering look and Eva Longoria loved it, while Zoe found it exquisite. Zoe also liked Gordana's design but Heidi found it too wearable and boring. Irina explained her trench coat look and Tommy Hilfiger found it reminiscent of Coco Chanel.

Johnny explained his look and told his story about the first dress being ruined by an iron. Heidi didn't like it and Eva found it not to her liking. Johnny told the judges how wonderful his first dress design was, very Dior in style. Nicolas couldn't help but laugh at Johnny's explanation. Heidi asked Nicolas to explain and he explained how Tim described Johnny's first dress.

Tommy and Zoe didn't like Nicolas's dress while they loved Christopher's feathery skirt and firm bodice. Overall, the judges loved several designs from the paper as fabric challenge.

Project Runway Winner Announced & One Designer Eliminated: Auf Wiedersehen

The six designers returned to the stage and informed Althea she was safe. Heidi continued by announcing Irina the winner of this week's challenge due to her risk taking. Christopher and Gordana were also safe. The bottom two designers were Nicolas and Johnny.

Heidi told Nicolas that they saw where he was trying to go but that it was too arts and crafts in style. She told Johnny that he can only be judged on what he puts on the runway and that this week it was not well made and an overall mess. Heidi told Nicolas he was in and then told Johnny he was eliminated.

Johnny thanked the judges and then went backstage to say his goodbyes. He cried and explained how hard it had been to overcome his former addiction problems. After Johnny left the room, Tim commented and showed anger at Johnny's, "spewing of fiction that Johnny did on the runway."

In his parting words, Johnny said there is a lot more to come from him and that he will grow from this experience. Discuss or comment on tonight's elimination at the reality TV blog.

For next week, the fashion designers have a 1-day challenge which has them sewing at a frantic pace.
