Who doesn't love reality TV? I don't know anyone who doesn't. Some people might knock the genre, but you'll soon discover that they have their guilty pleasures, like watching "Top Model" every week. I've been watching Reality TV for a long time now. I watch enough of it to be considered an expert. I'm not sure if I'm complimented or scared. (hehe!) So, here's my expert opinion on the top five reality TV shows of all time. They're in no particular order - and I'm limiting myself to five.
What a way to challenge myself! Okay, here I go.
1. Survivor. Despite the fact that the series has gotten a bit formulaic in the past few seasons and I've admitted in my recaps that I've gotten a bit bored with the show, I still gotta pick this as a sentimental fave. "Survivor" has given us some exceptional moments like a naked Richard Hatch, Jerri Manthey's walk-off during the 'finale', Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich's proposal, Johnny Fairplay's lies and the ultimate goodness that is Rupert Boneham. "Survivor" brings out the best and worst in the contestants - and we're there to watch it all season after season.
I wonder when - if ever - they'll put together a cold weather "Survivor"? Now that would be sweet!
2. Joe Millionaire. This show was the best. Omigod! Each week I laughed my *ss off. Joe Millionaire featured Evan Marriott, the ultimate deer in the headlights. How any of these women believed his lies is beyond me. On the first episode, he couldn't even come up with a fictional last name. Hehe! This show was like "The Bachelor" and "For Love or Money" in comedy form. I wake up sometimes wondering if Evan is okay. I mean does he remember to eat, how to walk across the street, which shoe goes on what foot? The ladies weren't too great, except for Zora who I rooted for. I guess I wanted to believe that love could be found between an idiot and a sweetheart on reality TV. Call me a romantic!
3. "Flavor of Love". I love me some Flavor Flav. He's over the top. So are the ladies in his crib. "Flavor of Love" has made me bust a gut laughing. It's also made me cry - from laughing. Flav and the girls are insane, y'all. It's like watching "Jerry Springer's Too Hot for TV" without the editing. The characters on this show do things sitcom characters only dream about. I mean who sh*ts on some man's floor.
You know what time it is, y'all. Time to convince Vh-1 that Flav needs to do a 3rd season.
4. "Project Runway". Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn are the bees knees, people. They 'make it work' every week. The designers are catty. They're creative. They're talented and I wish I were one of them. I love this show. It gives me the chance to live out my dream of being a fashion designer without having to sew. And ... don't get me started on 'Fashion Week'. It's like my SuperBowl.
5. "America's Next Top Model". From the beginning of the second season when I first discovered this show, I was hooked. I love "ANTM". I adore Tyra Banks. I have a crush on Nigel Barker, whom I once interviewed for RealityShack. I can admit it. I also love the two Jays. I do have to admit that there are times that I miss Janice Dickinson. Then, I remember how she used to make me cringe.
"ANTM" makes me happy that I have no modeling ability whatsoever. I don't feel so envious of the 'beautiful people' anymore. Thank you, Tyra.
