It’s the end of the year. Well, almost. Everyone’s looking back. I’m no exception. I chose moments that moved and shook me a little bit. These were scenes or situations that I went back to more than once. If you want to nominate some of your own, feel free to do so in the discussion area. I’d love to hear about what moments you’re reflecting on as the New Year gets underway.
(Note: This list is in no particular order.)
Taylor Hicks Wins American Idol
The gray-haired, gravely-voiced soul ‘brutha’ was certainly not the snazziest contestant on American Idol’s fifth season. He didn’t have the best voice, but it was good enough. He had the personality. He had the Southern charm. He also beat the pants off the pretty and Kelly Clarkson-esque Katharine McPhee. He made a believer out of Simon Cowell and one of me. Taylor won AI in a very tight race. It was an emotional and beautiful ending to a fantastic season. Taylor, you really had us goin’.
New York Loses Flav – A Second Time
New York, aka Tiffany Patterson, loves herself some Flavor Flav. Of course, no one can really understand why - especially not her mama, the “dramatical” Ms. Michelle. She lost the fashionably-challenged rapper not once, but twice. The second time around she mooned and swore and completely lost her cool. It was classic, b*tchy, crazy New York. Complete with thunder and lightning to punctuate the moment. You go, girl! I can’t wait ‘til your show starts.
Yul Flips Jonathan After He Flops on Survivor Cook Islands
Yul Kwon is a master manipulator. He’s intelligent, but he also knows people. Yul understood that Jonathan would be rational and selfish. As a result, Jonathan would be the most likely to help the Aitu tribe in their time of need. Yul used his brains to find the Immunity Idol and followed up with this spectacular move of showing Jonathan the same Idol to get the Aitu four to the final four. It worked like a charm - and Yul won the $1,000,000 to boot while carrying his buddies to the one of the best finales in Survivor history.
The former Football player hoofed his way into America’s hearts and voting fingers on Dancing With The Stars. The man worked hard. He was dedicated. He poured his heart and soul into the competition without romancing his dancing partner OR bending the rules. As a result, Mario Lopez, the odds-on favorite, had to settle for second place in a vote that was almost as controversial as the 2000 Presidential Election. Ay Dios Mio!
Will Kirby is a nasty, evil and handsome young doctor. We just love to hate him while envying the heck out of him, don’t we? The dude knows how to play a social game. He told his fellow housemates to vote him out on countless occasions. They didn’t get the hint. They didn’t perceive him as a threat until it was almost too late. Will helped his “friends” turn on each other throughout the game. He had them all believing he was on their side while only remaining true to himself and Mike “Boogie” Malin, the eventual winner of BB7. Mike has Will to thank for his impressive win, and we have Will to thank for an unforgettable summer of lies, manipulation and fun.
