Season 2 Ladettes, Nine Network Australia
Another eight Australian ladettes are sent to an old-fashioned English finishing school for their transformation into ladies.

Aussie Ladette To Lady airs on Tuesdays at 9.30pm on Nine Network Australia.

Principal Gill Harbord and Vice-Principal Rosemary Shrager leave nothing to chance this time as they prepare to welcome the ladettes to Hereford Hall. (A Nine Network source says Eggleston Hall was unavailable at time of filming.)

Mrs Shrager meets the ladettes at the airport, after last term’s disgraceful arrival. (Police were called to the airport after complaints of disruptive behaviour aboard their flight from Australia.)

Taming Party Animals

The Vice-Principal witnesses some really shocking behaviour from these loud-mouthed Aussies during the bus trip she would rather forget. Good manners and etiquette are still important today even if some critics believe the teachers are “uptight” and “old fashioned”. They are given a crash course in deportment and knowing how to behave appropriately at social events—subject obviously not taught these days.

The ladettes are rude, obnoxious and disrespectful—even feral—towards the teachers. They are in for a rude shock as some experience discipline for the first time. The teachers are strict, but they are also caring and encouraging. They gave praise when it was due, especially for a job well-done.

Etiquette and Social Protocol teacher, Elizabeth Brewer, demands all body piercings are removed. A specialist armed with pliers is brought in when two ladettes insist they cannot be removed.

Lady Devonport tells one, “Don’t tell lies, it’s not ladylike.”

Rosemary’s Kitchen Nightmares

Their cooking skills resemble Hey Hey It’s Saturday Reunion’s ‘Disaster Chef’ as the ladettes produce rock-hard profiteroles, the not-so-delicate sandwiches were “too thick”, and the ham and mustard sandwich tasted awful.

However, these ladettes were expected to produce perfect results during their first attempt with difficult recipes. (One wonders whether a real lady sends someone to the nearest cake shop, rather than slaving over a hot stove cooking from scratch?) Most confess they don’t know what a canapé is. They learn to make a good fruit punch and “elegant drinks” for a garden party. However, incidents such as the stealing bottles of alcohol appear “staged”, especially as the ladettes were fully aware of camera placements at all times.

Fashion Salon

The ladettes face a daunting challenge in Episode 3—hosting a salon show for high society, including fashionistas.

Niels Van Rooyan, director of Holland and Holland, proves a tough critic as he reprimands one ladette is reprimanded for her dirty cuffs. (Van Rooyan has designed clothes for the Royal Family—a stickler and a self-professed snob with extremely high standards.)

Which ladette allowed her success to go to her head, with the help of champagne?

Who faces expulsion next week? Have the teachers made the right choice?
