Carrie Underwood to tackle television talk circuit, host CMAs - and her own holiday special - as third album is released.

Fans of American Idol won’t have to wait until January 2010 to check in with a past winner of television’s top-rated program. Country music superstar Carrie Underwood, who won season four of the hit reality series, will appear November 2 on The Late Show with David Letterman on CBS. The following day, she’ll appear on ABC’s Good Morning America, as her third album, Play On, hits stores. And on Monday, December 7, Fox will air Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special (working title) at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

But that’s not all. Underwood is set to co-host the 43rd CMA Awards on Wednesday, November 11 (8/7 Central on ABC). She also will appear on In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts on November 10 (10 p.m. ET on ABC). In this special, the four-time Grammy Award winner shares personal stories related to fame, family and the music industry.

With her new album, Underwood is also revealing more of herself to her fans.

‘Who I Am’

“Because of my songwriting, I feel like somebody can listen to this album and get more of a sense of who I am,” she says. “They can listen to certain things and think, ‘This is really sincere. This is really emotional. She was a writer on it, so this comes from something that was deep inside of her heart.' I do feel like people can get to know me a lot better from Play On.”

“There's a little more mature subject matter on certain songs for sure," Underwood says. “But I like to think I'm still young enough to keep the fun and the sass and things like that. I'm also in a good place where I do feel a lot more grown-up, more confident in my writing and in my ability to open myself up a little bit more.”

A Year to Remember

It’s already been a banner 2009 for Underwood. She is the only country music artist to debut a digital single to sales greater than 100,000 units sold. She achieved that mark earlier this year with Home Sweet Home, and again recently with Cowboy Casanova.

With more than 10 million record sales, Underwood is American Idol’s top-selling artist. She also became the first country musician to notch 10 No. 1 singles over the course of her first two solo albums (2005’s Some Hearts and 2007’s Carnival Ride).

In 2005, Underwood outlasted Bo Bice and Chris Daughtry to win American Idol. Her first single, Inside Your Heaven, was certified Gold, and helped push total sales of Some Hearts past the six million mark.
