Survivor – Episode 10, Recap

Jonathan is a Rat

Jonathan ticks off Parvati, Adam and Candice. They try to get him voted off. In the end, Candice is sent to Exile Island ... and the jury!

Maybe I’m getting older. Maybe I’m wiser, or just grumpier. I am not a fan of the Parvati-Adam-Candice love-fest. I think the three of them are lazy, annoying and just juvenile. I feel like they should be on “The Real World” instead of “Survivor”.

And boy, does Parvati live up to her last name … Shallow. If this is her strategy, she needs to try and think up a new one. Dumb bimbo has been done to death and done better.

The episode begins with Parvati, Adam and Candice griping because Jonathan flip-flopped again. I’m not sure why they are so surprised. Jonathan has proven to be untrustworthy and selfish. They’re upset ‘cuz they don’t have the numbers no more. Oh Boo Hoo! Cry me a river, babies.

Parvati then rips into Jonathan, who tells her that Yul has the immunity idol and the jig was up. What he did was for self-preservation. He’s not lying and well, Parvati doesn’t believe him since he’s cried wolf before. She calls him a ‘rat’, which seems to be his new nickname as Adam couldn’t refrain from using it several times during the broadcast, particularly during Tribal Council, to refer to Jonathan.

Yul and Aitu are thrilled since they turned the game on its head and are in a good position now. Yul said he ‘wanted to play the idol at a critical point’ and felt that this was it. I think he’s right. I’m glad for Aitu. Glad, glad, glad!

The next day, Sundra shows Parvati how to gut a fish. All Parvati can say is ‘Ewww! Gross!’ The former Aitu mates can’t believe she’s been out on the island for almost 30 days and has never caught or prepped a fish. Neither can I.

Jonathan then gives me one of the best quotes of the evening, “Winning a million dollars would not help Parvati. It would only screw up her life.” I’m sure he thinks Parvati needs to have some character-building experiences and winning a boat-load of money for doing nada isn’t one of them. Of course, she could always marry wealthy, which I’m sure she’s considering.

Parvati and her crew continue to gripe about Jonathan. She says she’d love to “throw up on him.” Now it’s my turn to scream, “Ewww! Gross!” How old are you, P? Four? No, wait! My four-year-old daughter is more mature than that.

Jonathan, for his part, tells Yul that he thought making the switch during the Mutiny was going to be good for him. Instead, he ended up in the “clownhouse.” Hehe!

The next day, the tribe heads off to their Reward Challenge. Guess what, y’all? It’s time for the “Survivor Auction”. This is one of the most anticipated reward challenges of any season. The contestants are given cash and bid on items, some are a surprise; others are not. Jonathan was the big winner, or wiener, of the auction. He got a hot dog, beer and a pepperoni pizza as well as a toothbrush.

Parvati got a bubble bath and a piece of chocolate cake, and Ozzy, who seemed to enjoy watching Parvati in the tub, got to eat unlimited ice cream from an ice cream machine, but Becky was the big winner. She got the right to send someone to Exile Island, with Yul’s help, of course. She chose – wait for it – Candice. Personally, I’d have loved to have seen her pick Parvati. Why? She’d get the girl’s lazy *ss outta the tub and force her to actually do some work to survive for a few days.

Jeff said that Exile was a chance to get the hidden immunity idol. Candice was like, ‘I think I know where it is.’ Yul took the opportunity to say he had it. Jeff asked him to show it, which he did. Was this a good move on Yul’s part? I’m not sure. He seems to be flaunting the power a little bit, which can’t be good for him long-term. More on that later.

Back at camp, everyone was upset that Jonathan was soooooooooo selfish. Of course, no one else tried to outbid him. Parvati and Adam kept harping on how selfish Jonathan was. I guess it was their strategy to get Aitu to vote with them. Yul was conflicted because he knows Jonathan sucks, but he’s still the best goat in the competition. He’s also a class act – I’m being sarcastic – because he belched to emphasize the fact that he ate a lot at the auction.

Sundra is like, ‘I don’t want to see that dude in the Final Four.’ Parvati and Adam go for a walk. Parvati thinks she’s done a great thing by exposing a crack in the Aitu alliance. Honestly, no one could figure out that Jonathan is reviled. Puh-lease! Sundra, Yul and Becky discuss their mutual dislike for Jonathan. When he comes nearby, they stop talking, which tells him they were talking about them. He thinks Parvati has gotten to them. I think she only reminded them that they hate him, but the hatred was already there. It’s not always the best strategy to keep the most ethical person or your best friend in the competition. It’s a game, and Jonathan is a good person to keep for now. Maybe ‘til the end. If he’s standing beside you, you’re probably gonna win ‘cuz who’s gonna give the mil to the man they hate? Hmmmm?

Yul seems to be the only person thinking about this potential strategy. Of course, he’s the smartest person on the island, as Parvati keeps reminding us. He’s some ‘Harvard-Yale-Stanford’ dude.

Meanwhile Candice is crying ‘cuz she’s alone. She misses her Adam. Awww! I feel so bad for her. Here’s a tip – don’t betray people, and they won’t hold a grudge against you.

During the Immunity Challenge, Adam and Parvati rocked it, which was a surprise. Adam won the necklace. Parvati came in second. Jonathan brought up the rear in third. No one from Aitu made it to the final round. This is the first time they didn’t dominate in a challenge in – well, I don’t know when. Why? Maybe ‘cuz they didn’t need to. I hope they’re not gonna play soft now. You can NEVER, EVER relax on “Survivor”. Never.

Adam, Parvati and Candice try to get Aitu to vote Jonathan off. They consider it, but aren’t giving anything away. Adam and Parvati call Yul out as the “ringleader” of the Aitu alliance and say he’ll piss off the jury if he doesn’t vote Jonathan out soon. They even suggest they’d vote for him in the Final Two if he does this.

The day of Tribal Council, Jonathan goes fishing. Adam, Parvati and Candice cuddle in the tent like all day. Aitu cleans and eats the fish Jonathan caught. Candice is hurt and upset and calls Aitu out. She rips into Jonathan telling him how his alliance hates him, even Yul. Yul is like, ‘don’t speak for me, Candice.’

Yul is obviously concerned about all this drama. He and Becky chat and he considers voting Jonathan out so he can keep the jury happy. He seems to suggest he’s a shoo-in for Final Two – at least, it seemed that way to me – and this could cause him some trouble down the line.

At Tribal Council, Candice dishes about the fish issue and says she just wants the jury to know what’s going on. Yeah, right! It’s part of her strategy and a way to protect her friends still in the game. Jonathan complains that she, Adam and Parvati do nothing at camp and well, why should Aitu continue to feed them? In a way, I see his point. I hate to agree with Jonathan, but if you’re trying to survive, why feed the dead weight?

Adam again calls Jonathan a rat. He thinks they should vote him off too. In the end, Candice was sent to the jury. She and Adam shared a passionate kiss. Jeff quipped, “Well, a kiss is nice. Maybe if it were love he would have given you the immunity necklace.” Oh, Jeff! You’re awesome!

So what did you think about this episode? Do you think Jonathan should’ve been sent to the jury? Is Yul getting too cocky about his position in the game? Are Parvati and Adam going to be able to break up Aitu? Would you want them to? Let me know in the discussion area. I’d love to hear from you.

Wow. What drama. Parvati said she wanted to throw up in Jonathan's face. I wonder if she remembers that Aitu was betrayed 10 days ago by Jonathan AND CANDICE.

Parvati not having even SEEN a fish gutted just goes to show how lazy, selfish and spoiled she is. Deanna was right. The Raro kids belong on The Real World.

I still can't believe that the lunk-head won the immunity challenge. I think maybe Aitu wasn't trying very hard. I don't think that Adam and Parvati would do better at a thinking challenge than Yul and Becky, who's also a lawyer.

I disagree with Deanna about Yul exposing the "hidden" idol. He must have realized that Jonathan would "out" him to Raro in order to explain his flipping. So, since he figured it was probably already out there, he just 'fessed up. How was he to know that Raro was so stupid that they wouldn't believe Jonathan?

The only thing funnier than Parvati acting as if she was some kind of Sherlock for realizing that Jonathan's personality was offending the others was Adam being totally clueless about it.

As for the "not sharing" incident, I was laughing my a** off. Why should they get to just make out in the shelter (In a threesome, no less. Talk about "Ewww!") and then eat?

I agree that Yul may have overplayed his hand with Becky when talking about "victory votes" in the jury. Once it gets to the final four (depending on what happens with the not-so-hidden idol) the Aitu women just might get together to blindside the mighty men.

Ozzy slipped into the background in this episode. The focus was on Jonathan and Yul.

Candice's influence on the jury will be interesting.

There's been some talk on the Survivor's blog about the finale. A supposed press release said that there would be a final FIVE, instead of four. But, it looks like Parvati cuts her hand badly next week. Maybe she has to withdraw and someone is still voted out, making for a "double-elimination".

It looks like next week will be the "family visit" reward.

You could totally be right about Yul. Maybe he did decide to beat Jonathan to the punch. I hadn't thought of that. Jonathan did 'out' him to Parvati, Candice and Adam...so, I guess that makes sense. Interesting, theory!

I am sort of intrigued by Ozzy's slipping into the background. In a way, it makes me appreciate him and his strategy more. He's letting others fight it out and sort of being a likeable neutral person. He's pulling back a bit. I think it could work out well for him, but we'll see.

As for P's hand, I hope it's okay and she doesn't have to go home for an injury...however, I wouldn't mind if she got voted off.

Either way, we'll have to see.

P.S. I do think Candice will do her best to try and influence the jury. However, I think she'll only get Nate to really listen. I could be wrong...but Raro did tick off most of the jury already.

That's right. Rebecca and Jenny looked amused when they heard about the "not sharing" incident.

I've seen another preview of next week's episode. It will be the "family visit" week and the visitors will get to participate in the reward challenge.

The immunity challenge will be an obstacle course, at least some of which will be on the water.

As for P's hand, in the preview, I can hear her say that it felt like her finger was going to come off and Jonathan says (to the camera) that he doesn't know if she can stay out here like that. The medics are called in to look at her hand. But, in the Mayday immunity challenge in week 4, Jenny cuts her thumb with the hatchet while trying to make fire. From what I could see, Jenny's hand bled a lot more than Parvati's.

Dale Enomoto :
I just saw Candice's interview on Survivor Live on the website. It turns out that she was trying to make an alliance with Sundra on Aitu. When she mutinied, she kind of expected Sundra to follow her.

She's put on some weight. She's not fat, but her face and arms are definitely fleshier than in her bio picture, so she's heavier than she was when the game started. That's happened before.
